IS THIS THE BEST RESTAURANT IN PUERTO RICO?

San Juan, Puerto Rico is an absolute haven for great food. The vast amounts of fusion and flavors put together make the culture of food in San Juan unique and in its own lane. Celeste sits towards the top of the restaurants that exemplify the beauty, tastefulness, and essence of a phenomenal restaurant. Celeste has rapidly become one of the city's most beloved restaurants, thanks to its innovative menu, stunning atmosphere, and friendly staff starting with owners Sebastian and Diego Martinez.


Both Sebastian and Diego were born in San Juan and also grew up there as well but found themselves moving to Boston as well with their family. Talking to both Sebastian and Diego, they each had a profound respect for growing up in two very different places. After graduating from College they worked tirelessly in different restaurants learning the ins and outs of the kitchen. Each stop was somewhat of a puzzle piece to what is now Celeste.



The chefs concoct together a great amount of traditional Puerto Rican dishes with elements of international cuisine from their time living abroad. The goal was always to keep Puerto Rico at the forefront while allowing other cultures and elements to seep in to the cuisine. The result is a menu that is both familiar and unexpected, offering something for everyone. Whether you're in the mood for a dish like brick quail with aji amarilllo and fried sweet potatoes or something more adventurous like grilled octopus with seared clementine and vinegar pistachios, you're sure to find something you love at Celeste.



The atmosphere at Celeste is just as important as the food for both Martinez brothers. Celeste offers and intimate, bright, and airy dining room with cozy seating, and beautiful artwork that is local to the city. The restaurant's design is a warm and inviting space that sometimes is completely booked due to a private event. An amazing highlight of dining at Celeste is the restaurant's commitment to using the freshest ingredients possible which includes locally-sourced ingredients. Both Martinez brothers work very close with local farmers, fishers, and food artisans to make sure each dish is made with the highest quality ingredients. This not only results in dishes that are overflowing with flavor, but also ensures the assistance in helping to support the local community and promote sustainability.






In addition to the flavorful food and beautiful atmosphere Celeste offers, it is also known for its exceptional service. Sebastian has a beautiful way of making each guest feel at home during the time at Celeste. Diego is absolutely lethal when it comes to the kitchen and throwing things down. While I was there covering the restaurant he was extremely knowledgeable and answered every question I had pertaining to the kitchen and beyond.

This restaurant in San Juan, Puerto Rico is an absolute must visit destination for anyone who loves creative, innovative, and a memorable cuisine. From the beautiful surroundings to its bevy of flavors and cultures to its commitment to using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, Celeste offers a one of a kind dining experience that is extremely unique.
